Locals mourn the loss of beloved Byron Shire icon, Alfred.
Yesterday afternoon (October 29), it has been reported that Alfred was struck by a vehicle on Ewingsdale Road between the Bayshore Drive and Sunrise Boulevard roundabouts. Emergency services attended and he was airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital, where he sadly passed away.
Known for walking the roads of the shire day and night, often wrapped in his signature garbage bag, Alfred was a familiar and much-loved local figure. Though he rarely spoke, those who crossed paths with him will remember the quiet kindness and presence he carried.
Over the years there were many close calls — a reminder of how fragile life can be. Our hearts go out to Alfred’s family, friends, and to the driver involved. Please be kind and compassionate as our community grieves this loss.
Rest peacefully, Alfred. You were part of Byron’s story. 🕊️
