Byron Shire Road Closures You Need to Know
Here’s what’s happening across the Shire this month, straight from Byron Shire Council’s official works and projects page.
🛣️ Mullumbimby Road
Outbound traffic will be closed between The Saddle Road and McAuleys Lane from 13 October to February 2026, except for school buses, emergency and waste services. Inbound traffic will stay open. Detours are available via Myocum Road or Coolamon Scenic Drive.
💧 Byron Bay Town Centre
Stage 1 of the Byron Bay Drainage Upgrade is underway and will continue through November 2026. There are lane closures and pedestrian changes around Jonson and Lawson Streets. The Lawson Street car park and adjacent laneway next to Guzman y Gomez are closed until the December school holidays, and the pedestrian bridge between Butler Street and the rail corridor remains closed.
🪨 Main Arm Valley
Slope and landslip repairs near 1650 Main Arm Road started on 7 October. The road is reduced to one lane under traffic control with short delays expected. Works are scheduled until late 2026.
🏗️ Wilsons Creek Road
Flood restoration works continue, including culvert replacements, road reconstruction and slope stabilisation.
Day works: Monday to Friday until 10 October (7am–5pm) with up to 15-minute delays.
Night works: Starting 12 October (8pm–5am), the road will be closed, with local access only.
These repairs are expected to run until June 2026.
🌿 Left Bank Road
Flood restoration works are underway along Left Bank Road, repairing culverts, causeways and landslips near properties between 641 and 699. Council lists the project as continuing into early 2026. Residents have reported daytime closures between 9am–3pm during active works — check on-site signage before travelling.

Additional flood repair works are happening across Goonengerry Road, Main Arm Road, The Pocket Road, Left Bank Road and Frasers Road, scheduled through 2025.
